In the Itapará region, the sport fishing season starts in November (end of the rainy season), until March. The river recedes from the mangroves to its natural course. In this period, with the reduction of water level, what once was a large mass of water, now forms many small lakes and lagoons. These places are the hottest spots for great fishing. Peacock bass form large schools, attacking everything in their way. A great show! In the Itapará River, fisherman will find three peacock bass species: Temensis peacock, spotted peacock and butterfly peacock.

Itapará River doesn't offer just peacock bass. In fact, the aquatic fauna has many fish species. In the region, fishermen will find piranhas, aruanas, the quick surubins and one time, even a pirarucu was caught in the Itapará River. But, to be sincere, the fishing stars are the peacock bass, no doubt! They can reach up 12.250 kilos or 25 pounds. However, it's more common to find ones averaging 6 or 7 kilos or 12 to 15 pounds. Sportfishermen prefer to fish for peacock bass because they provide incredable acrobatic fights with tackle busting capabilities. You may use conventional baitcasting or spinning tackle along with large plugs such as rapalas, bombers or other jerk baits or if you prefer, cast a large fly.

The average number of bass caught and released per angler per day in 2005 was an astonishing 32, average bass weighed between 10 to 12 pounds. Our 2005 record was a 24 pound mammoth peacock bass.

"We have 2 base camps, 3 big areas with 5 principal points, and more than 250 unexplored wild preserved lakes where Peacock Bass grow to more than 25 lbs. Fly fishing is a fantastic and special challenge for Peacock Bass with great rewards. "
